7075 Aluminum
Manufacturing reference for 7075 aluminum covering strength, temper, machining behavior, applications, density and source notes.
7075 aluminum is a high-strength alloy commonly selected where strength-to-weight performance matters. It is used in aerospace-related components, tooling, fixtures and high-strength machined parts.
Quick material data
| Property | Reference |
|---|---|
| Density | ≈2.81 g/cm³ (≈0.1015 lb/in³) |
| Elastic modulus | ≈72 GPa |
| Strength | Strongly dependent on temper |
| Machining | Generally machinable; cutting data must match the tool and condition |
Temper is part of the specification
7075-T6, T651, T73 and other conditions are not interchangeable. Copying mechanical properties from one temper to another is a common material-data error.
Machining
Use sharp cutters intended for aluminum and maintain chip evacuation. High-strength aluminum can still produce burrs and heat if the tool is rubbing. Engagement, chip load and tool geometry should be considered together.
Applications
High-strength brackets, aerospace components, tooling components and lightweight structural parts are common application areas.
